Our next stop was the Far View Ruins area.

This little area provided easy access to the Far View Communities, consisting of five communities and the Far View Reservoir. Here, for the first time ever, Jeff got his first look at Mesa Verde ruins.

Immediately adjacent to the road was Far View House. In this picture, you can see a parked yellow car at the far left. Jeff is seen here videotaping our first look at the ruins.

Here, also, was our first look at a Kiva.

Kivas are underground ceremonial chambers, and appear in all of Mesa Verde's ruins. Some communities have more than one Kiva, and larger communities, such as Cliff Palace, has many of them.

Next to Far View House is Pipe Shrine House.

The Kiva here has a ladder of sorts, probably put there by archeologists to get in and out of the Kiva without damaging it.
