Sun Point Pueblo was a medium-sized village. There are still foundations remaining for 15 rooms, but the village may have had as many as 30 rooms. Earlier villages had open courtyards, but this village had a central courtyard with dwellings surrounding it on all four sides. It is possible that this village may have had multi-story buildings. Their masonry at this time was sophisticated enough for it.

The central courtyard had a tower and Kiva. There was a tunnel connecting the tower and Kiva.

Apparently, this is common in the Mesa Verde area. It is believed that the tunnel was used for sudden, dramatic entries into the Kiva during ceremonies. Another view of the tower and Kiva

shows the tunnel leading down from inside the tower. In the Kiva itself,

you can see on the left where the ventilation shaft is. On the right is the tunnel leading down from the tower. Unexplained, by any of the signs in this area, is that big hole in the middle that seems to lead down from the Kiva. My guess is that this is a storage area.
