Jeff arrived home from work about 6:20. After a quick shower, he set his alarm for 9:45 and hopped into bed for a few hours of sleep. When the alarm went off, we got up, dressed, then proceeded to put the remaining items into the vehicle. After a quick beginning video on the camcorder, I plugged in the cigarette lighter Y-adapter that we had picked up at Walmart last year, plugged the radar detector into one of it's receptacles, and pulled out of the driveway at about 10:15.

Two of the items packed in the front seat with us was my portable CD/MP3 player, and a power inverter. I had put together an MP3 disc the night before. This would give us about 15 hours of music - 7 hours for the trip out, and 7 hours for the trip back. The power inverter is a nifty little device that has a cigarette lighter plug on one end, and the other end has a box with one AC outlet.

We needed to make two stops before leaving town. Our first stop was at the bank. As we headed up to the bank, I took out the CD player and the inverter and set them up. The Y-adapter enabled us to power both the radar detector and the CD player simultaneously, and the inverter enabled me to power the CD player from AC rather than running down its batteries. This way, the music would last the whole trip, not just part of it.

Arriving at the bank, I took out plenty of cash for the trip. This would be used to get ice for the ice chest, on-the-road meals, more gas when needed, park and campground fees, and, of course, souveniers.

Our second stop was at Walmart. First, we went into the McDonalds to get something to eat. This would be our lunch so we wouldn't have to stop to eat on the way. And since we hadn't had any breakfast, we were both hungry. After eating, we picked up two bags of ice and dumped them into the ice chest. We pulled out of Walmart and worked our way across town.

We finally hit the highway, southbound, about 11:30.

The first part of our trip took us through Pueblo.
