We returned to the vehicle and completed the loop at about 4:00 pm. On our return trip back along Ruins Road, we reached a sign at a turnoff that we had missed earlier. As it turned out, there appears to be no sign when going the other direction. And it was just as well that we didn't turn off here earlier in the day since doing so may have made us miss the Cliff Palace tour. Either that, or our leisurely lunch would have become a rushed lunch. This is the only other spot along the main road besides the Far View Communities, so we decided to get it out of the way now.

We drove down a short road and parked at the end of a short loop.

This mesa top dwelling is labeled on the map as Cedar Tree Tower and Kiva. The Cedar Tree Tower

is one of several scattered across Mesa Verde. Some towers are connected to a Kiva by a tunnel. Archeologists think these towers were special observation locations, or used for ceremonial purposes. Some towers may have provided a location for special social events.
