A short distance father along the loop

brings us to Fire Temple and New Fire House. Fire Temple

shows no evidence of habitation. The central firepit is much larger than was used for cooking fires and was filled with ashes. It is thought that Fire Temple was used strictly as a gathering place for community-wide ceremonies. Directly to the right of Fire Temple is New Fire House.

This dwelling did not have the alcove expanse like Cliff Palace or Oak Tree House. But it makes up for it by making efficient use of the ledges. As you can see in the picture, New Fire House is a split-level village. The upper ledge has 13 rooms and a set of three grinding bins. The lower level has seven rooms and 3 Kivas. Hand and toe holds connected the two levels. There may have been a ladder as well.

In this panoramic view

you can see how Fire Temple and New Fire House are immediately adjacent to each other. Fire Temple is on the left and New Fire House is on the right.
